Uthamaputhiran - A short review

Not sure, if the title has any relevance, but who really cares if you are kept entertained? The first half has shades of Ethiri (the main plot) & scene before interval leaves you at edge of seat making you expect some nail-biting action in the second half. But what awaits in the second half is rib-tickling comedy. Vivek, so unusually makes entry only in second half, but clearly steals the show. Fellas who one would expect as brutal villians, take you for a ride with their comedy. Many stars (including Bhagyaraj, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Reddygaaru, Ambika, Rekha) have been handled neatly. Average music. A wholesome family entertainer (especially 2nd half).

Dhrohi - A short review

The story revolves around Srikanth & Vishnu, who in their childhood were best of friends, but situation & immaturity forces them to be foes. Director deserves a credit for keeping the movie racy throughout, despite the fact that we only get to see these two fellas competing with one another for existence. What remains puzzle is, how does this fierce enmity between the both fades away in a couple of dialogues? They almost kill each other till the previous scenes, but suddenly one says "I was always trying to protect you" and the other says "you are my hero". The director could have handled this better (one should have been killed). Pardoning this (which no one will) both the guys have done commendably well. Vishnu's has attempted to act, but Srikanth performs really well as a thug.

Nandalaala - I'm Awestruck!

Movie title and the immediate next credit was - "Isai - ILayaraaja". This completely moved me as I have NEVER seen such a thing in any movie till date! My expectations went very high right from that moment. Without an iota of doubt, the "Maestro" has exceeded my expectations.

3 scenes (all just before songs) completely left me in tears. My friend Deepak turned to tell me "Re-recording gavanichiya", saw me in tears and kept quiet! LOL! Re-recording reached new heights. All you keyboard players & sound engineers called Harris, DSP, Yuvan (sometimes) etc - Please watch this movie and start from LKG, at least now.

Deepak told that when Mysskin was asked as to why he went to ILayaraaja for this movie, his reply was "ThamizhargaLukku mudhalil thaai, aduthadhu ILayaraaja". You can't help but appreciate the importance of both motherhood & ILayaraaja in this movie.

The story revolves around a school boy (around 10 years) and Mysskin (around 30 years, lives at an Asylum). Both are deprived of mother's love. While the former believes that his mother is good & has left him and gone elsewhere for work, the latter believes that his mother is bad & has deserted him due to his illness (he is not mentally ill, tho he is in Asylum). The boy yearns to meet his mom, hug her and kiss her, atleast once. Mysskin is all set to meet his mom and slap her on the face. They both meet accidentally & the rest of the story is the journey of these two to their respective places. The journey is full of emotions & understanding colors of people. At the end of the journey, their perspective completely changes. Though the whole movie is a sort of heavy subject, the end is not cruel or tragical. Its rather practical and "feel good".

Snikdha (Kathazha kannala fame) makes entry in the second half and provides good support. Special credits to Nasser & Rohini. They play some important roles without even a single dialogue. Particularly, Nasser just appears in one scene, before even one could realize its him, he vanishes!

All technicians have done commendably well. Kudos!
